Text chat with strangers: compare the format before the brand
For a conversation without a camera, look for a genuine text-only mode. A text box beside a live video stream is a different product. Also decide whether you want one random conversation, a group discussion or messages with someone you can contact again.
This guide is published by Vooz and reviews public provider information checked on 14–15 October 2026. It is a small comparison, not an independent ranking or a test of moderation, uptime or conversation quality. Vooz details were updated from information supplied by its product owner on 16 October 2026. They were not verified through a live session.
Which kind of text chat do you want?
Random one-to-one text chat introduces you to a person you did not select in advance. It can suit a casual conversation when you are comfortable with an unpredictable match. Do not assume there is a way to find the same person later.
Group text chat involves multiple participants in a shared space. Check who can read the messages, who can join and whether the conversation history remains visible. A group may be organized around a topic, but its name does not establish the participants' identity or expertise.
Private messaging with a known contact is the better fit when reaching a specific person matters. It depends on an address, account or contact system, rather than another random match.
The format decision comes first. If you are still deciding whether to use your camera, compare video and text conversation.
What do the sources establish?
Question: Official identity
Vooz: vooz.co
Emerald Chat: emeraldchat.com
Question: Text format described
Vooz: Random text, private text and chatrooms are listed. The shared entry is app.vooz.co; exact text-mode camera requirements still need confirmation.
Emerald Chat: The homepage describes one-to-one text chat and group channels.
Question: Adult eligibility
Vooz: Vooz presents an 18+ entry requirement.
Emerald Chat: Its terms require users to be at least 18.
Question: Account
Vooz: Guests can use random text chat and chatrooms. Signing in adds friends and account features; confirm the private-text entry requirements.
Emerald Chat: The current homepage says an account is required. Older promotional pages give different instructions, so follow current entry requirements.
Question: Cost
Vooz: The base platform is free. Optional filters and profile customization can involve paid or earned-point access; exact rules and limits are not compared here.
Emerald Chat: The homepage describes free access with paid subscription features. Exact prices are not compared here.
Question: Continuity
Vooz: Friends and private text chats are listed. Exact reconnection and message-history behavior still need confirmation.
Emerald Chat: The homepage describes friend messaging and stored chat history; check the relevant mode and settings.
Emerald's descriptions come from its public product pages. Vooz's owner confirms guest text/chatroom access, friends and private text chats. Text permission requirements, private-text entry, message history and exact optional-feature rules still need confirmation. Neither column is a hands-on performance test or a safety rating.
What should you check about privacy and moderation?
Check what other participants see and what the provider processes. A display name may limit what you reveal to another person, while the service still handles account, device or usage information.
Vooz's owner says automated moderation processes text conversations without human review. This does not establish retention or deletion. Read the Vooz privacy policy or Emerald privacy policy for the provider you are considering. Look for the categories collected, retention, reporting evidence and deletion process. If a policy does not answer a question that matters to you, treat that point as unknown.
Locate the exit, report and any block controls before a conversation. Their names are not interchangeable: leaving ends your participation, while reporting asks the service to review conduct. A block's exact effect depends on the product. Do not assume one action automatically does the others.
The privacy evaluation checklist explains the questions in more detail.
How was this shortlist reviewed?
The review used public product pages, terms and privacy information, supplemented by Vooz's October 16 owner confirmation. It did not create accounts, pay for upgrades or enter conversations with other participants. It therefore cannot establish how consistently a feature works or how quickly a report is handled.
The shortlist stays small because an additional provider is useful only when its identity and relevant text format can be established. Services offering a text box during video chat were not automatically counted as text-only options.
Where does Vooz fit?
If your goal is a new written conversation, start with Vooz text chat. Check current access conditions, decide what you are willing to share and locate the exit before joining. Choose a different format if you need a scheduled meeting or reliable contact with a specific person.
